Meet Josh Bayley

Josh has been a valued member of the Trading MasterClass Community since the very beginning! Year over year he continues to evolve and master his trading performance on deeper levels, displaying an unwavering commitment to his craft (and to himself). Late last year, Josh made the switch to become an “advanced day trader” as taught in Trading Blueprint, and as a result, experienced the best quarter of his entire trading career thus far (in Q1 2022)! We’re inspired by Josh’s performance and greatly appreciate his ongoing contribution to the TMC Club! Learn more about Josh in the interview below and make sure to connect with him on Instagram or in the club directly.

When did your trading journey first begin?

My trading journey first began around September 2016. It was quite a random one as I was out on a walk with a mate when he mentioned that someone he trained with was trading/investing and I knew a little bit about it from seeing stuff on social media and watching the classic Wolf of Wall Street. That same day I went out and got myself a laptop and thought I was going to be making millions by the end of the week... Got the laptop setup and from there I was just watching “How To” videos on YouTube. Nearly a year later no real progress was made.

My mate found Jonny Godfrey on Instagram and said he’s trading with IP. After checking that out and watching Lewis Mocker's videos, I went and upgraded to the Silver membership, then eventually getting to Platinum, which then lead me to meeting Irek just before he went off to start TMC. Probably 2 months after the announcement of Trading MasterClass, I joined them and have been with them ever since. Been one huge roller coaster of emotions, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What was it that made you want to pursue trading?

The first thing was the freedom and flexibility I realized it could bring me. In the future, I want to be able to travel, and trading can help me achieve that as I'm not stuck in a 9-5 with only a certain amount of time off each year! I've always wanted to live life on my own terms and not have to answer to a ‘Boss’ and bring a solid foundation for my family.

Even though I'm still part time I'm hoping to finally get funded this year (2022) and hopefully begin my full-time journey from there!

What is something unexpected that you love about trading?

I never realized how much of an impact trading would have on my own personal development journey. It is way more than just looking at patterns on charts and money! You truly do have to pull yourself apart and analyze your own behaviors & decisions which will be detrimental to your success within yourself and trading.

"You truly have to pull yourself apart and analyze your own behaviors & decisions"

Lastly, in the beginning I never understood the importance of structure and routine. Creating structure to my days and having a solid plan set out every Sunday for the week ahead has helped me so much during the past few months in understanding myself better, making decisions that work for me, and keeping me on form! So, to conclude from that, the one thing I love about trading that I never thought would be essential is the journey of self development!

What do you believe are the three most important characteristics of a trader?

Discipline - The most important one for me would be discipline. I chose discipline first because it is both the most important trait as well as the most difficult to acquire and hold on to and maintain for the long term. If you do not put in the effort to study and learn then you will not trade successfully!

Adaptability - Secondly, adaptability. You need that in order to change course quickly in response to the changing market conditions, sudden events, etc. For day traders every trading day can manifest itself differently and you want to be able to adapt to whatever the markets bring that day!

Patience - Thirdly, patience is another main characteristic of a successful trader. If you are merely a beginner, do not fall into the trap of what most do (including me) and expect to be making huge profits from the start. Or even just thinking you need to be in a trade every day. Let the trades come to you. Easiest way to do that is to build a solid plan and just stick to it.

What advice would you give an inspired, driven individual about to step into the trading world?

Just go for it! Make sure you learn from someone who has the results you are looking for and don't look back! It'll be hard but nothing in life worth having comes easy! Just make a plan and stick to it.

How has Trading MasterClass assisted you in your evolution?

Trading MasterClass helped me in many different ways, not just in trading, as that isn't Irek and the team's sole purpose. They want you to win at life, not just in trading! It definitely helps a lot that we can make use of Slack to reach out to each other and ask questions without being judged or laughed at as we were all beginners at one point. I'd personally say though that the Diamond subscription has helped me progress the most and gain a lot more clarity within myself and who I want to be as a trader. I got to the point in my trading where I was stuck and I felt like there was something missing in my trading, and after upgrading I found that my current style just wasn't suiting me. That's why it's so important that when you first start out, you break down each individual personality and choose according to how it suits your lifestyle.

What is your most memorable trade to date and why?

My most memorable trade to date was back in March 2020, just when the markets were reacting to all the news about covid-19. I was playing around with a smallish account at the time and shorted 3 lots on gold. Stop loss was tight, but I never set a take profit as I was just manually closing my trades on that account (kind of scalping). I remember it was about 10am UK time and gold just absolutely dropped off a cliff along with a lot of other markets (Crypto & Stocks) and just looking at my broker account and seeing my account had 10x in value and decided to close, and from that day on it has made me realize just how much trading can change your life!

What is your next immediate trading goal?

For me it's going to be getting another 3 months of live results from my current style and then come summer (July in the UK) I will be attempting FTMO again and from there just evolving and compounding my own personal account from funded profits! Another big one for me will be when I pass FTMO I'll be moving towards going full-time with my trading which has been my goal since I started, so to tick that off would be huge!

Any Final Words Of Wisdom?

If you want something out of life, you have to go out there and get it, because it is not just going to be given to you! If you want to change your life, then it all starts with belief. Belief is an intangible emotion that determines the course of everyone's life. One of my favorite quotes from the book, 12 Rules for Life, is “Rule 4 - Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”

"Belief is an intangible emotion that determines the course of everyone's life."
