Meet Kev J

There is no trader more fitting to kick off the 2021 TMC Member Interview Series than one of TMC's OG's, Kev J!

The Trading MasterClass Club would not be the same without Kev! He embodies everything it means to be a successful & collaborative trader. He's disciplined, consistent (in everything he does), he's open, and he's able to adapt to changing environments when needed... an inspiration to say the least, and a perfect role model for newer traders. Check out Kev's story below, and make sure to connect with him in the TMC Club, or on IG!

When did your trading journey first begin?

I first found out about trading around mid of 2016 when a friend of mine told me you could make money online and from that moment I was hooked. I called a friend I grew up with “Benny Lane” because I found out he was trading full time. I asked him several questions, and by the end of the phone call, I had signed up to study the online course he had recommended. It took me several months to complete the course before going live, and by the end of 2016 I was on my journey to becoming a forex trader. When Trading MasterClass was launched in 2018 I signed up straight away because I was determined to follow Irek’s path and what an incredible journey it has been since. I believe it was Trading MasterClass that taught me how to read price action clearly and that’s where I felt a shift in my trading journey. The content in the course helped me develop a better understanding of price action and psychology.

What was it that made you want to pursue trading?

The fact that money could be made online was an absolute game-changer for me. Trading also shifted my way of thinking and it made me realise there is more to life than working a 9-5. But it wasn’t always about the money, it was about the freedom and psychology behind trading and that’s where the bigger picture was for me. To be able to maintain equanimity through wins and losses and life in general made me truly understand the power of the mind.

"It wasn’t always about the money, it was about the freedom and psychology behind trading."
What is something unexpected that you love about trading?

I am in awe of the constant self development, internal self-awareness and being able to frequently adapt and evolve to everyday life experiences.

What are one to three books that have profoundly impacted your journey? Why?

These 3 self development books made me become who I am today. Consciously aware of my habits. Aware of my thoughts and actions through my trading journey and day to day life.

What new belief, behaviour, or habit has helped you gain the most forward momentum since becoming a trader?

I’m continuously striving to be the best version of myself whether I’m listening to Jonny & Irek’s webinars, listening to audibles or lifestyle habits like surfing, health and fitness. Trading is 10% technicals and 90% psychology and this is where trading has opened my mind to unlimited growth for self development.

What advice would you give to an inspired, driven individual about to step into the trading world?

To never give up. Never ever give up. We’ve all been through a rough journey during our trading career and have also experienced wanting to throw it all in because times got tough. Don’t be afraid to reach out to the mentors or experienced traders. We’re all on the same journey and are only a message away. Backtest continuously and once you feel like you’ve done enough backtesting do some more. Really engrave the strategies into your mind until one day you realise that your daily watchlist is exactly the same as Jonny & Irek’s. That’s when you know the late nights were all worth it.

"Never give up. Never ever give up."
How has Trading MasterClass assisted your evolution?

Trading MasterClass has opened my mind to a higher level of awareness. Irek & Jonny have taught me to understand how to adapt and evolve with the markets. To not let wins and losses control your emotions and to understand that these challenges are part of the process. The way the mentors conduct themselves throughout their busy schedule inspired me to have a consistent routine in my life whether it be reading a book, backtesting or health and fitness. Molly has taught me so much about gratitude, love and happiness. That life is precious and to always be grateful and treasure the ones close to you and to also take time out for yourself. Sometimes we work so hard we forget to stop and smell the roses.

What is your next immediate trading goal?

My trading goal is to continue to compound my account and to eventually become a full-time trader. I also want to be able to trade investor capital or work for a firm. My goal is to also inspire others with the journey of trading because trading offers the opportunity to be able to make money online and to have freedom. To be able to inspire one person would be incredible.

Any final words of wisdom?

Be obsessed with wanting to learn something new or challenging and aim to take action on a daily basis. Its when we are consistent every single day that our habits become our reality. If you find yourself slipping into bad habits again, gain control of that emotion and take action. Stepping out of your comfort zone may seem difficult at first because we are naturally born to protect ourselves and be comfortable with what we know, which is why we thrive on certainty and security, but its when we seek discomfort we then start to realise there is another higher level of you. Your mind is your most powerful tool. Train your mind to become the best version of yourself.
